Think about it—over the course of their school years, students will spend thousands of hours in the classroom, learning everything from multiplication to reading comprehension, science experiments to history lessons. That’s a lot of time, and a lot of information! But we don’t just want our students to memorize facts—we want them to remember them, to let those lessons make an impact, and to turn that knowledge into something they can use to change the world.
That’s why, here at Hickory Hill Academy, we believe learning has to come ALIVE! Our recent 5th Grade Math Fact Fluency Boot Camp is a perfect example of this philosophy in action.
More Than Just a Day of Math
Today wasn’t just a typical school day. It was a day dedicated to making math stick, a day filled with hands-on, engaging activities that helped our 5th graders not only understand math facts but experience them. The boot camp was all about turning what could have been a routine practice session into an exciting, memorable adventure. And that’s the key: when learning becomes memorable, it becomes part of who they are.
Our teachers designed this day to be fun, challenging, and, most importantly, tailored to each student’s strengths. From creative math games to collaborative team challenges, our students were immersed in an environment where they could truly thrive together. When students are engaged like this, their understanding deepens and their passion for learning grows.

Our approach to learning has to have a foundation of social emotional learning which is why our vision is cultivating compassionate leaders. This means more than just delivering lessons—it’s about truly caring for each child.
