Building Our Future With Character: Class Charters at HHA

Community Circle at HHA

Every Monday, our K-8 students, along with family members, come together to start the week on a positive note. We call this time Community Circle. It's a special time to focus on character building, share HHA highlights, and set the tone for the days ahead.

At HHA, social-emotional learning (SEL) and character development are the foundation of everything we do. From academics to activities, we root our approach in compassion and our L-E-A-D-E-R-S acronym (being someone who is a listener, empathetic, accepting, disciplined, ethical, respectful, and selfless).

What is a Class Charter?

During today’s circle, each class presented their class charter—a unique document they created together. According to Webster, a charter is “an official document granting, guaranteeing, or showing the limits of the rights and duties of the group to which it is given.” For our students, this means a shared agreement on how they will treat each other and work as a team throughout the year.

Why Is a Charter Important?

Principal Perkins encouraged everyone by explaining why a charter is so important! He said, "Creating a class charter helps build a sense of unity. It establishes clear goals, outlines roles, and encourages accountability. This way, everyone knows what’s expected, reducing miscommunication and helping the class work together as a supportive community.

These charters set the foundation for a respectful and connected environment where students can grow both academically and as individuals."

Our Community Circle is a chance to bring everyone together, and starting the week with these important lessons in character sets us all up for success. We look forward to more meaningful moments throughout the year!

Here's a look at some of the charters! We are so proud of each class!
